FAQ

A comprehensive initial evaluation takes place that lasts approximately one hour. During this time, your therapist will discuss your medical history, current complaints and goals to include in your treatment plan. You will be thoroughly evaluated from many aspects including posture, range of motion, strength and function. At the end of your session, your physical therapist will discuss the determined treatment plan as well as what is expected of you as an active participant in your recovery and the frequency and duration of treatments.

Please bring the following items with you:
• Medical Records, including MRI and X-ray results
• Insurance Card
• Referring Doctor’s prescription
Please wear comfortable clothing and sneakers.
Each visit lasts approximately one hour.
Most patients being treated by a Licensed Physical Therapist are referred by a Physician and do have a prescription, However, in 2006 a Direct Access law was passed, allowing NY State licensed physical therapists with 3 years of experience to treat patients without a prescription from their MD for 30 days or 10 visits, which ever comes first. A prescription from a Medical Doctor, Orthopedist, Nurse Practitioner, Podiatrist, Osteopath or a Dentist is then required for further treatment. Please check with your insurance company regarding their policy on this law. Some insurance companies including No Fault, Workmans’ Compensation and Medicare require prescriptions at all times for services to be covered.

Your therapist will instruct you in a thorough home exercise program which will maintain the gains achieved in therapy. The chances of a recurrent injury or exacerbation is significant decreased when you are compliant with your home program.
